Faux Pasta: A Sister Cooking Blog

Had a great dinner out at Gather (www.gatherrestaurant.com) last night with one of my roommates from Santa Cruz - Allison. Her birthday is on Saturday, so we decided to “go for it,” which was a very exhilarating feeling. Here’s a picture of the Vegan Charcuterie, which was:
· Black Trumpet - pine nut, miso, rosemary
· Carrot roasted in soil - citrus charcoal, Puntarelle, Watermelon radish, currants
· Winter citrus - pistachio, Chioggia beet, dill
· Brassica (cauliflower) - Ruby Crescent potato, King Trumpet, celery, nori
It was great, but their pizza was pretty amazing too – had green garlic on top with chili peppers. Our favorite dish was the grilled artichoke on top of farro verde, black walnuts, espelette pepper, and Kishu mandarin. Holy crap. I think it might have been vegan, too. So creamy and delightful with charred, perfectly-cooked artichoke. The mandarin added this brightness to the whole dish. Maybe they’ll give me the recipe? It was definitely a splurge, but I don’t eat out often and everything was done so well. Bonus points for the Bee sting cocktail, which was also delicious.
